I hate it when people insist on more gun laws or even advocate gun confiscation. It proves they are lacking in their knowledge of history. To be clear: I don't hate the people, just the ideals that have killed millions of people and are now spewing forth from their mouths and pens.
Hitler took the guns. Mao took the guns. Stalin took the guns. Venezuela took the guns. The people's ability to resist were taken away and they died in droves. The people of Venezuela are dying of starvation and hundreds were murdered by the state's enforcers. Don't believe me, check BBC News under the "Latin America and Caribbean"; first the article on 01 June 2012 "Venezuela bans private gun ownership", then 22 June 2018 "Venezuela crisis: UN says security forces killed hundreds".
"Corrupt leaders in America do the same & the cities they do it in most don't get safer."
-An0maly (LegendaryEnergy), about gun confiscation.
I also hate it when people choose to use guns to inflict harm on people who don't deserve it; or any tool, for that matter. Evil exists in people's hearts and they will find a way to act on it. Banning and confiscating guns won't work; they'll find a way to get guns anyway- they already do it illegally either by buying guns off the black market or stealing them. Ban guns? They will be smuggled across the border. You won't be able to keep guns out of the hands of evil people.
Now, you may still think guns are evil and cause the evil. Consider this: John R. Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center observed, in his "Concealed Carry Permit Holders Across the United States: 2016", that of the 12.8 million gun owners with a conceal carry permit only 0.002% have committed a firearm violation. Do the math. 12.8 million times 0.002% equals 256. 256 people. That's a insignificant minority of them.
There are 70+ million Americans that own more firearms, combined, than there are people in America. If guns were actually a problem, then we would have all been shot by now. We haven't.
The Second Amendment declares that, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Not the right of the militia, nor the right of the government. The right of the people.
Why protect this right? Let's examine the wording of 2A.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Let's break it down. "A well regulated Militia". What is a militia? Google says, "a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency." The 2A declares a militia is "necessary to the security of a free State". This means that a civilian force needs to be drafted as necessary to defend the homeland, but not as part of the regular army. So, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" is so that they can form a militia to fight against people trying to destroy America and having those arms already, especially if they are proficient with them, diminishes the supply drain on the regular military. All these militiamen are a military adviser, like how a Seabee Battalion has a Marine Gunnery Sergeant to advise them, or even an officer to lead them in the fight to defend their families, homes, and land from people who would take it all away.
And America is a Republic, not a Democracy. What does that mean? In a Democracy, if the majority wanted something of yours they could vote to take it and there would be nothing you can do about it. In a Republic, you have rights that the majority CAN NOT violate, therefore they can not vote you out of your property.
The fight for the preservation of Liberty never ends; there will always be someone who is looking to take it away, whether they will take it in large chunks or little nibbles. They will invent scary terms like "assault weapons" and play with your emotions to get their way, all to pull you from rational thought so that they can blindfold you against what they are actually doing.
